“God created Arrakis to train the faithful…”

If you are a fan of the Dune series, by Frank Herbert, then you probably have an indelible image of the desert planet Arrakis, or “Dune”, etched into your psyche. Not since Tolkien has an author created such a “real” place, or one as dramatic in scope. It has been recreated on the big screen and, in my opinion, it was quite a spirited effort – despite its flaws.

However, there is nothing like your own imagination! I make it a point to re-read the series about once a year (I find it always very instructional) and recently went through it again. I decided it was time to create some icons and to do some visualizing of my own. We had considered doing some Dune icons as part of our Sci-Fi Objects set, but that set was more about movies and TV, and I really wanted to be free to interpret certain things in my own way. Now, you may have your own very specific ideas about how some objects in this set should look, but I hope you will enjoy my interpretations as well! After all, it is a big planet… and there is plenty of room in the trackless deserts of Arrakis for all our imaginations!

This set of icons is dedicated with great thanks to the late Frank Herbert for writing the Dune Chronicles, and to my father, Richard Brasgalla, for putting the books on our bookshelf…
